What's (good) design ?

Good design seeks attention and it's clear. It does not confuses people nor makes it hard for them to look at it. It must be a whole without any part left behind. Graphic design like that is great, people remember it and most importantly, it serves it's purpose.

Design is a tool for packing and publishing ideas.

The idea can be knowledge, concept, favor, or even the product that is presented to the client or even presenting it publicly online.

If there is no clear message, story or idea behind it, we cannot call it design, no matter how brilliant it is. Because, graphic design, is still a product of art, and art must be meaningful.

When we publish something, we do it with a goal; to sell it, promote it, seek cooperation, get a vote, or get the audience that will follow our work. Good design, which serves it's purpose, is the one that will help us in this and the one which will help us receive good reactions from our auditorium. If we are to manage that, we must make a good design, which has clear message, clear purpose and a good and concise story behind it.

What do we want to tell? What is it all about? Why is it important? Who are you talking to? Who is my audience? What's the goal?

Are we looking for cooperation? Are we going to inform or give out a warning sign? Are we going to educate or to give instructions? Identify or symbolize? Are we to present people, places, cities, countries? To inspire or demotivate?

Graphic design has many goals, which are: education in the first place, communication, promotion, motivation, entertainment, dialog and many other. But, just for having this many goals and purposes, we must declare one before starting making any of it, no matter if we are designing ourself or hiring a professional graphic designer. Depending of purpose of the product we are making, it's purpose dictates many other factors during it's creation.

There are five important elements of design: Text, Picture, Color, Format, Composition (layout) and also, the sixth one, the untold one, it's the way we blend all of this together.

There are ten rules for choosing and placing the elements into one perfect composition which will, eventually, become a graphic design. As from our next post, we will start describing those ten rules, one by one, with detailed explanation of every single one. #graphicdesignblog #designtips #learngraphicdesign #dudustudioblog
